Art Box Workshops is excited to launch the first stage of our new Material Lab Program, beginning with immersive Watercolour Mixing Workshops designed to teach children and families about the traditional, eco-friendly art materials used in their creation.
These workshops focus exclusively on hand-crafted watercolours, created using natural Earth mineral pigments and plant-based binders. Participants learn where colours come from, how they were historically produced, and how sustainable art practices support both creativity and the environment.
Each mixing station is shared by two people — a child aged 8 years or older and their caregiver or an older sibling (11 years or older). Each participant will create their own paints and take home a complete handmade watercolour set with care instructions.
Workshop time: 9:00 am – 12:00 noon (3 hours).
Creative Kids vouchers ($50) can be applied to the child’s booking.

More InfoTerm 4 2025 – Portraiture: For growing artists ready to deepen their skills. We study proportion, features, light/shadow, colour theory and composition—then develop a meaningful portrait of a mentor/person they admire. Students craft a thoughtful artist statement (it counts!) and learn how to present work for an art stream portfolio or enter into an art exhibition. Approach: Well-being first, process over prizes; an optional exhibition pathway is available for those interested. What we cover: sketching & thumbnails, reference image, material choice & layers, detail/finishing, photographing work to spec, and polishing the artist statement. Exhibition submission steps are available upon request for those interested. More InfoTerm 4 2025 – Portraiture: 8-week course A playful portrait journey for young artists. We explore colour, expression, and story through whimsical portraits of the people who matter—siblings, grandparents, friends, parents, or self-portraits. Each child builds a finished artwork and a simple artist statement in their own voice. Approach: joy before prizes; gentle skills + confidence. What we cover: face basics (shapes & placement), bold colour mixing, pattern/texture, composition, and how to talk about your art. Optional guidance is available for Young Archie entries (format & photo submission covered in class). All art materials are provided. Environmentally focused printmaking and mixed-media projects Students will create artworks that tell the stories of threatened species, local ecosystems, and conservation issues.
