This unique lino printmaking workshop takes inspiration from the Powerful Owl, one of Sydney’s fascinating nocturnal residents and Australia’s largest owl. Powerful Owls depend on old tree hollows to raise their young, and once a breeding pair establishes a suitable nesting site, they often return to the same location for many years. As Sydney’s landscape has changed, these remarkable birds have adapted to urban life, hunting silently through bushland corridors and the night skies in search of possums and other prey.

Students will create a striking illustrated owl design inspired by the Powerful Owl’s character and movement, adding bold, funky patterns and creative details to make their artwork unique. Julia will guide students through the exciting process of lino printmaking, from developing a design concept through to carving an A5 lino block. Students will print a series of cards to take home.

Children will learn:

  • How to design a funky owl with patterns
  • Lino printmaking techniques.
  • Create a series of hand-printed cards to give as gifts

This workshop encourages patience, technical skill and thoughtful composition while producing a series of prints that can be gifted as cards.

Perfect for upper primary students who enjoy detail, design and developing new artistic techniques.

Medium: Lino prints on paper.
Dimensions: A5 148 x 210 mm
Art Teacher: Julia Sawicki
