Broughton Street, Kirribilli
Art Box Workshops is proud to be part of Open Streets Kirribilli, bringing a vibrant and educational eco-art experience for children and families. This community event offers an engaging mix of creativity, environmental awareness, and hands-on activities designed to inspire young artists and nature lovers.
Interactive Eco-Art Station for Children and Families
Our eco-art station invites children to explore art-making in meaningful ways, utilising sustainable materials and engaging with nature-inspired activities. This activation aligns with our mission to support creative learning while fostering awareness of Australia’s threatened species.
Paint a Card to Take Home
Children will be able to paint their own take-home art cards using our handmade, eco-friendly watercolours. These cards feature artwork designs created by Art Box Workshops students, showcasing the creativity and talent nurtured within our studio.
Student Art Exhibition: Wild at Art Finalists
Visitors can also view large collaborative artworks created by our primary school students.
This exhibition includes selected finalists from the national Wild at Art competition, hosted by the Australian Conservation Foundation, chosen from nearly 5,000 entries across Australia.
For the past nine consecutive years, Art Box Workshops students have been recognised as finalists for their powerful collaborative works, which support conservation and raise awareness of Australia’s threatened species. This long-standing achievement reflects our commitment to nurturing children’s voices through creativity and environmental storytelling.
Animal Footprint Art for Younger Children
Our younger participants can enjoy a tactile and engaging animal footprint activity.
Children will finger-paint the footprints of iconic Australian species such as the Koala and Platypus on take-home fact cards designed to spark conversations about wildlife conservation.
Our six-metre marquee will be set up with comfortable tables and chairs for up to ten children per session, ensuring a relaxed and welcoming creative environment.
Try Our Eco-Friendly, Handmade Paints
At the start of 2025, we began transitioning to artist-quality, sustainable, handmade art materials. This initiative connects children more deeply to the history of colour and traditional artistic practices.
Our paints are crafted in-studio using natural Earth pigments, including French ochres sourced from centuries-old ochre pits, blended with plant-based binders and free from heavy metals or fillers. These materials are non-toxic, archival, and safe for children.
Our range now includes:
- Natural watercolours
- Traditional tempera paints
- Handmade wax crayons
These sustainable materials align with our ongoing mission to offer environmentally conscious art education.
Looking Ahead to 2026: Eco-Art Material Making Workshops
In 2026, Art Box Workshops Material Lab. Pure Colour Handmade will launch a new series of eco-art material-making workshops, where children and families will learn how to create their own pigments and art materials from natural sources. These workshops will explore historical techniques, Earth pigments, and the rich traditions of handmade art supplies.
This upcoming series will further enrich our commitment to sustainability, education, and the creative process.
