This creative program is specially designed for children aged approximately 6–8 years and introduces students to the exciting world of sculpture through drawing, design, construction, and painting. With step-by-step guidance, children will learn how to transform their ideas from paper into finished three-dimensional artworks while developing confidence, creativity, and problem-solving skills. Inspired by Australian wildlife, beloved pets, and animals from around the world, students will explore how artists use shape, form, texture, and colour to create sculptures. Throughout the term, each child will design and construct their own animal sculpture using paper clay. They choose one animal as a class to bring to life on paper as a painting and as a sculpture in air-drying clay that is painted. These classes are ideal for children who enjoy making, building, drawing, painting, and working with their hands. What Makes This Term Special Sculpture encourages children to think creatively in three dimensions while strengthening fine motor skills, spatial awareness, patience, and perseverance. Students will experience the satisfaction of seeing an artwork develop from an initial sketch through to a finished painted sculpture. Working in a supportive studio environment, children will be encouraged to develop their own artistic ideas while learning practical sculpture techniques used by professional artists. What Students Will Learn Across the 8 weeks, students will explore: Drawing and planning ideas for a sculpture project • Understanding shape, form, balance, and structure in three dimensions • Building armatures and sculptural forms • Creating texture and surface details using paper clay • Painting and finishing techniques for sculpture • Developing observation skills through animal studies • Building confidence, fine motor skills, and creative problem-solving Each child will complete a finished animal sculpture and a portfolio of sketches, design drawings, and developmental artwork that documents their creative journey from concept to completion.
