Our Term 3 art classes for older primary school students at Art Box Workshops Sydney will focus on sculpture, drawing, and painting, with the theme How to Design, Paint and Sculpt Your Favourite Animal.
Note: Enrolment is currently prioritised for existing students and those on our waitlist. Remaining places will be offered to the public once families on the waitlist have been contacted.
This program is specially designed for children aged approximately 9–12 years and provides students with the opportunity to develop a creative concept from an initial idea through to a finished painting and three-dimensional sculpture.
Students will explore a wide range of animal references, including Australian wildlife, exotic animals, marine creatures, birds, pets, and even mythical creatures such as dragons and fantasy animals. Through observation, imagination, and guided instruction, students will learn how artists transform ideas on paper into sculptural artworks.
These classes are ideal for children who love drawing, painting, sculpture, animals, and creative problem-solving.
What Makes This Term Special
This term encourages students to fully express their individual artistic vision while learning advanced art-making skills. Beginning with design development and observational drawing, students will create a detailed painting before translating their chosen subject into a three-dimensional sculpture using air-drying paper clay.
The process allows students to experience the complete journey of an artwork—from concept and planning through to construction, painting, and finishing.
Working in a supportive studio environment, students are encouraged to make creative decisions, solve design challenges, and develop confidence in their own artistic voice.
What Students Will Learn
Across the 8 weeks, students will explore:
• Designing original artwork inspired by photos of animals and mythical creatures
• Understanding shape, form, proportion, and structure in sculpture
• Building three-dimensional forms using air-drying paper clay
• Creating texture and surface details that bring sculptures to life
• Problem-solving and creative thinking through the design process
Each student will complete a finished animal painting, a detailed paper-clay sculpture, and a portfolio of sketches, design studies, and developmental artwork documenting their creative process from start to finish.
