Designed for students aged 9–12, this workshop explores the dramatic shapes and brilliant colours of the bird of paradise flower. Young artists will learn to plan a balanced composition, blend polymer paint colours, and use expressive brushwork to create depth, contrast, and botanical detail. With step-by-step guidance from artist and art educator Julia Sawicki, students will develop their technical skills while creating an individual interpretation of this extraordinary tropical plant. Each student will take home a striking completed canvas to display and enjoy. Students will: Learn to sketch and draw a balanced composition using a viewfinder Learn how to enlarge their composition using the grid method Understand layer painting techniques to build up details of the Bird of Paradise Learn colour mixing and brush techniques Each artwork will be painted on a canvas before going home. More InfoPeacock Mixed-Media Workshop | Ages 6–8 Date: Wednesday 7 October 2026 Time: 9 am-3 pm Create a dazzling peacock filled with brilliant colour and shimmering detail in this exciting mixed-media workshop. Designed for children aged 6–8, the workshop begins with a guided peacock drawing. Students will then create an underpainting to establish the colours and structure of their artwork before adding rich layers of iridescent oil pastel. Young artists will explore line, shape, pattern, colour and texture as they bring the peacock’s magnificent feathers to life. Each child will complete an individual framed artwork to proudly display at home. Students will: Learn how to draw a peacock Explore layering techniques of collage and mixed media. More InfoDolphin Sculpture Workshop | Ages 9–12 Date: Thursday 8 October 2026 Time: 9 am-3 pm Bring the energy of the ocean to life in our Dolphin Clay Sculpture Workshop. Students aged 9–12 will learn how to design and construct a three-dimensional dolphin surfing through a wave. With expert guidance, young artists will explore sculptural form, proportion, balance, texture and the techniques required to join and shape air-drying clay. Students will then use acrylic paints to add ocean-inspired colour and detail to their sculptures. Each completed dolphin will have its own movement and personality, creating a unique artwork to enjoy for years to come. Students will: Draw and design a Dolphin riding a wave. Learn construction techniques. Learn surface finishes and water textures using clay tools. Learn painting techniques for sculpture Each dolphin will be painted and ready to take home at the end of the workshop. Designed for children aged 6–8, this hands-on workshop introduces young artists to the foundations of three-dimensional design. Students will learn how to shape, join and texture air-drying clay as they construct a charming kookaburra inspired by one of Australia’s best-loved native birds. Once the sculpture is formed, students will use acrylic paints to add feathers, markings and individual character. Every child will take home a unique, hand-painted kookaburra sculpture. Students will: Draw and design their Kookaburra.
